The Vienna Town Council is composed of the mayor and six Councilmembers. The Town Council establishes town policies, passes ordinances and resolutions, approves the Town budget, sets tax rates, approves land-use plans, and makes appointments to Town boards and commissions. Town elections are non-partisan, and Councilmembers are elected at large for staggered two-year terms.

Application Guidelines
To file for this position follow these three simple steps: 1) Read the candidate bulletin for the office you seek at Verify that you qualify for the position. You must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia for one year immediately preceding the election, and be resident of the Town of Vienna at the time of filing. Vienna town elections are non-partisan. 2) Complete the appropriate filing papers, which can be found on the Department of Elections website here council candidates must complete the Certificate of Candidate Qualification, the Declaration of Candidacy form, the Petition of Qualified Voter form, the Statement of Economic Interests form, and the Statement of Organization form. 3) Submit these forms after January 1st of the election year and before the filing deadline in March to the General Registrar of Fairfax County PO Box 10161 Fairfax, VA 22038-8061.
