The North Dakota Superintendent of Instruction is state executive office holder and the leader of the Department of Education. Primary responsibilities of this position include: execution of policies set forth by the Department of Public Instruction, appropriation of education funds to various counties annually, distribution of school materials, curriculum, certifications, and administrative information, and auditing school official accounts alongside the state auditor. The superintendent also supervises the North Dakota Schools for the Deaf and Blind, the State Library, and the Department of Pubic Instruction. The superintendent serves a four-year term with no limit on the number of terms served. The salary of this position is $110,000 per year.
